Seeing as I’m currently reading “De Geschiedenis van Europa” by Norwegian author Karsten Alnæs and one of the opening themes is the Black Death, I thought it would be cool to embed a very interesting documentary that I found today at Best-Online-Documentaries. For many this incident signaled the end of the world and would ultimately lead to the Reformation of Martin Luther due to the growing mistrust in the Church’s insufficient means to help the plague-infected population at the time.
Although this doesn’t have any relevance to the learning of languages, this documentary helped me understand what Alnæs has tried to convey in “De Geschiedenis van Europa” more clearly. Studying this period certainly isn’t a cozy way of spending your afternoon, but it’s interesting to see the impact this had on the society as a whole. Many were convinced that this really was hell on earth.
