Hi Ragnar!
This is very interesting article.
My haplogroupe is M242 and I am from coastal Croatia. Dna test have been done by National Geographic lab in Texas.
As I know my family may be traced to island Hvar in Adriatic and I know these islands were attacked by Normans during 11th or 12th century. On the other hand, might be posible that we came from Hungary.
Do you have any information of this haplogroupe have been found amoung other Croats?
I would apreciate if you find some time to contact me on mine e-mail: mariocotic@mdirect.net

  Regards,
          Mario

I'm a bit confused. There seems to be a conflict between statements by David Faux and other estimates as to the frequency of Q in Iceland. There seems to be agreement that the frequency of Q in Norway is about 1%. That matches the pie graph. However Faux also states that the frequency of Q in Iceland is also about 1%. This seems to conflict with the pie graph, and statements by others. Even Faux's statement raises questions. "In Helgason’s article on the haplotypes of Iceland, there are 13 of the 181 samples which are labeled R1b – Branch A, but which are actually Q." 13 of 181 is about 7%. That would mean 1% of the total if R1b were 14% (one seventh) of the total but R1b is more like 33% (one third) of the Icelandic sample.

I am a descendant of Thorfinn and Gudridur. My four grandparents emigrated to North America almost exactly 1000 years after Snorri Thorfinnson was born in Vinland.
